British multidisciplinary musician and artist oogie returns to the soundsphere following 2022’s & then EP, with brand new track and visuals to “KANYE ME”. This is the first track taken from oogie’s highly anticipated EP phew, due to release next month.
Swiftly building momentum as one of the UK’s most intriguing and naturally talented young artists in the music scene, oogie drops off the first single from his hotly-anticipated new project, phew. Delivering raw, anecdotal tales, that immediately define oogie’s talent through his unique tone and seemingly ambivalent cadence enable the lyricist to lure the listener in, only to impress with refined adlibs and smooth overtones. Sitting atop ethereal instrumentals consisting of slick percussive elements, smooth brass notes and light xylophone-infused tones produced by Wize, and paired with a sleek set of visuals directed by Louis Lincoln, “KANYE ME” proves to be another fitting introduction that looks to launch oogie into significant UK conversations ahead of his new project.
Speaking on the new single, oogie states: “It’s about me getting out of my own way. I’m saying I need to take my foot out my own mouth, stop blocking my own blessings and move forward etcetera. I hadn’t recorded in about 6 months at the time as I was dealing with a lot of life stuff on top of overthinking — I needed to strip everything back and get back to basics. It’s me self-reflecting and evaluating. It just so happened that at the same time one of my biggest creative idols, Kanye West, was having a Kanye West moment, I put that all in a pot, and this is what came out.”
With a relatively elusive presence on the scene, clocking just five official releases since 2020, oogie’s output has already garnered serious tastemaker support across the board, including the likes of: COLORS, CLASH, THE LINE OF BEST FIT, TRENCH, GRM DAILY and LYRICAL LEMONADE, who heralded the Londoner as “a master when it comes to controlling his cadences”. Add to this radio support from BBC 1XTRA, and all points to a genuinely thrilling homegrown talent ready to reach the upper echelons of the UK music scene.
