Titled “bake”, the production sees skippy percussive elements fill the speakers with a sleek D’n’B-infused beat alongside melodic keys, before switching up half-way through to a darker, more menacing trap-style beat . All the while oogie delivers his raw anecdotal tales through his unique tone and seemingly ambivalent cadence, enabling the lyricist to lure the listener in throughout this innovative new cut.
Speaking on the new single, oogie states: “”bake” is me experimenting, in all senses of the word. Playing with new sounds, taking in new thoughts and ideas, surrounding myself with different ways of doing things. It’s very underground London, very dusty, moody and grim, but yet fun in vibe, It represents precisely where I’m at right now. A lot of things do not fully make sense life wise at the moment, but I’m vibing with it and creating all the way through it.”
With a relatively elusive presence on the scene, clocking just the six official releases since 2020, oogie’s output has already garnered serious tastemaker support across the board, including the likes of: COLORS, CLASH, WONDERLAND MAGAZINE, THE LINE OF BEST FIT, TRENCH, GRM DAILY and LYRICAL LEMONADE — who heralded the Londoner as “a master when it comes to controlling his cadences”. Add to this radio support from BBC 1XTRA, and all points to a genuinely thrilling homegrown talent ready to reach the upper echelons of the UK music scene.
oogie’s forthcoming records act a true testament to his desire to transport the listener, even momentarily, into a new space. A singular artist forging a reputation as one of the most intriguing and versatile UK prospects coming through right now, oogie’s natural ability marks him as a significant new name in the scene.
