South London singer-songwriter Monét returns after a brief hiatus with her new single, ‘Wanna Know’.

A reflective single with pure emotion at its core, ‘Wanna Know’ sees the musician grappling with the intricacies of love and relationships. Accompanied by a slick visual shot in South London by JJ Foster, we witness Monét in various locations conversing with herself in an attempt to understand her innermost feelings. Her signature spoken-word style glides effortlessly over the JSTRNGS production, creating a new ‘Chill R&B’ subgenre. Speaking on the track Monét said:

Wanna Know is an honest track about navigating through different stages of emotion. For me, it’s important to be as authentic as possible in my music so that people are able to connect with it”

From Peckham, South London, Monét began to write poetry at the tender age of 8, when she got her first taste of performing whilst showcasing her skills in primary school talent shows. Over the past few years, Monét has been studying journalism at university. Having graduated last year, her focus is now on honing her craft, tapping into the creative bubble of South London, and making music. Growing up with synesthesia, she uses her relationship with colour to her advantage, allowing tones to produce feelings and help direct her creative process in and out of the studio. She describes her music as warm and wants to invoke these feelings in the listeners; this obsession with colour is showcased perfectly in the ‘Wanna Know’ video.

Monét is an artist who uses music to express herself, and her music is meaningful and relatable. By allowing herself to be vulnerable, she hopes people will connect with her music and their feelings. Monét built excitement through the release of ‘Just One of Those Days’ and ‘Hunnitdegrees’ featuring OG KEMi championing support from the likes of Reprezent, Rinse FM, The Beat London, No Signal Radio and BBC Radio London. Monét is moving in the right circles and has had cameo’s in some of the best music videos, including Jim Legxacy’s ‘Cold Lewisham Roses’ and Miles from Kinshasa, Sam Wise, kadiata and Knucks on ‘Dont Be an Opp’ and ‘Don’t Be an Opp II’. Citing the likes of Planet Giza, Smino, Jill Scott, Lauryn Hill, and Solange as inspirations, Monét’s unique sound offers a timely reminder of the vast talent within the burgeoning UK scene. For a chance to see Monét live, she will be performing at ‘The Amazing Grace’ on October 22nd alongside Bina and also supporting KSR at COLORS Hoxton on October 25th.
