North London musician and vocalist Gabriella Cole explodes into the ether with her stunning debut record “on track” – out now across DSPs, with the official music video to follow on 1st March.
A warm, hazy R&B cut elevated by Gabriella’s smooth, dream-like vocals, “on track” instantly defines the blossoming newcomer as standout. Bursting with vibrant synths and loose, retro-fitted percussion channelling shades of Kelela, the 23-year-old artist seamlessly delivers a story of empowerment and self-assurance, breezing past the complexities of love and painting vivid silhouettes of ambition and belonging when seeking solace in your creative and ethereal journey. Stitched together by her intimate storytelling and transcendent escapism, Gabriella’s debut single gives a glimpse of both the pure talent and breadth of scope on offer.
Speaking on the record, she explains: “I made ‘on track’ with my producers Nolais and JEDSOUL as well as the talented songwriters Edàja and SKŸE. This song is really special to me as it doesn’t fit into one box. It’s got hints of pop, alternative R&B and live drums. R&B can be very romantic. For ‘on track’, I went in the opposite direction. The song is about breaking the mould, being self-assured and trusting the process. Oh, the cover art was shot by WeAintBoyz as well.”
Boasting rich Ugandan heritage while growing up in North London, Gabriella’s artistry clearly emerges as a product of her environment: pulling fragments from silky R&B and lucid dance-pop, her sleek, melodic makeup has blended seamlessly with London’s ever-evolving sound; a bustling space where real storytelling and authentic musical creation can flourish in the space of her own bedroom. An avid multi-instrumentalist spanning across guitar, drums and vocal production, the young talent’s pop-tinged inflections will no doubt introduce her as an exciting new prospect fast on the rise.
With a plethora of releases confirmed for this year, Gabriella Cole’s trajectory feels exciting, fresh and set to continue into 2024. Get ready to hear and see a whole lot more.
