Jesusdapnk is a talented deep house producer and DJ who has been making music for several years. His music is characterized by its atmospheric soundscapes, deep basslines, and intricate rhythms. With his album now out, we got the opportunity to speak with the creative about his album and its origins.

Let us in on who Jesusdapnk is and the history behind your name…

The name Jesusdapnk has a simple origin. My first name is Jesus, and “dapnk” was something I came up with. Jesusdapnk has been my screen name since I was about 11 years old. My older brother’s screen name was Spikepnk, so I went with Jesusdapnk. When I started experimenting with making music in my teens and MySpace came about, I chose Jesusdapnk as my artist name and created my MySpace artist page. After that, I wasn’t sure what direction the project would take until I got my first record deal with Saturday Night Sessions. Since then, I’ve stuck with the name Jesusdapnk. Friends often recommended I create multiple names or aliases, but I’ve preferred to stick with this one. People can see my life and growth through my journey in music.

Describe your sound using five words.

Deep, Smooth, Funk, Jackin, Jazz

We got the opportunity to listen to your album, “Summer Heartstrings.” We’re really feeling the Deep House vibes the album emits. What were the inspirations behind creating such a project?

With the album, I guess I was just inspired to put forth a project that feels worthwhile. A project that will last and leave a mark on my career. I also felt the need to experiment and take a risk on a big project like the album to see what’s next, either advancement or staying where I am. The thing that always inspires me is my love and passion for my favorite genres of music and the growth I’ve experienced from releasing many EPs in the past, just the difference in quality from then to now. A big inspiration for this project is simply an attempt at growth. I think that’s what growth is—the next stepping stone. On with whatever is next.

Summer Heartstrings” lands on Junior Sanchez’s label, Brobot Records. How did this come about?

In previous interviews, I’ve mentioned that the album was created as an emotional release and to provide listeners with a sense of relaxation through smooth, jackin/electronic music. But I also wanted to create a project that felt worthwhile, something that would leave a lasting mark on my career. I felt the need to experiment and take a risk on something big to see what comes next, whether it’s advancement or staying where I am. My love and passion for my favorite genres of music always inspire me, along with the growth I’ve experienced from releasing numerous EPs in the past. The difference in quality from then to now has been significant. This project is a testament to my desire for growth. Ultimately, it comes down to growth. It’s the next stepping stone, moving forward to whatever comes next.

What is your favorite track on Summer Heartstrings, and why?

Dance With Essence” is probably my favorite track on the album. I love Acid House and Deep House, and I feel this track is a great blend of both. It combines the raw acid sound, smooth deep chords, and a strong groove. In my opinion, it’s just a nice banger.

What three tracks instantly get you on your feet?

Marc Evans – This Thing Called Love

V.I.C.A.R.I. – Pascia (Dub)

Curtis Mayfield – Move on Up

Who would be your dream producer to collaborate with?

I’m not too sure, to be honest. It would depend on how I vibe with a person if and when I collaborate. I guess I would say Pete Rock. I can only imagine the crazy stuff we could create with his skills in chopping and flipping samples and his selection of samples or vinyl to sample.

What is next for Jesusdapnk?

I have an EP coming out on Miura on August 3rd, so if you’re an Acid House/Deep House fan, I’m sure you’ll dig it. Besides that, I’ll keep playing gigs that come my way and see where music takes me. Stay tuned for anything!
