‘Stand Up For Love’ is now out and with its releases comes a brief talk with its creator, Felix Leiter. Check out how the track came about as well as what tracks Felix discovered during Lockdown.
Let us in on who Felix Leiter is?
Hi! I’m a DJ & Producer based in the UK! I also run a YouTube channel called ‘Show Me The Sample’ where we explore the samples and stories behind dance floor hits.
Describe your sound in 5 words
I’m more fun at night.
What new skill did you unlock during Lockdown?
Researching, writing, filming and editing my YouTube series!
Your latest release, ‘Stand Up For Love’ is a House cut floor filler. What was the thought process behind its creation?
The vocal was written by Rion for a different idea that I’d sent him… But as soon as I heard the vocal he’d written I knew it needed a different backing track! I love his voice, makes me think of Prince every time I hear it . It’s supposed to be a groovy track with a slamming kick and sub.
We see this release lands on Under No Illusion. How has it been working alongside them?
Great! I’ve known label boss Ki Creighton for 20 years, he was the resident DJ at an event I started with my best mate, Matt back in the day…
Checking out your catalogue, we came across your track, ‘Good Times’. We’re digging the vibe this one gives off. How did the collaboration with Ben Rainey come about?
I interviewed Ben for my ‘In The House’ podcast… He played me his initial idea for the track afterwards, which I loved! I went away and worked on it with my mate, Mark and we came up with what you heard! Idris Elba played it a lot upon release, that helped the track gain exposure!
What 5 tracks did you unearth during Lockdown?
Supernova – If I Tell You (Original Mix)
Brokenears – Burning Up (Original Mix)
Tube & Berger – Free Tribe 2.0 (Original Mix)
Mobb Deep – Shook Ones, Pt. II (Westend Edit)
CASSIMM – The Wizard Piano (Original Mix)
If you could create a track with any artist / producer, who would it be?
I think the idea is the exciting thing, not the artist or producer… So I’m looking for the idea not the ideal collaborator.
What’s the next step for you?
Trying to put out good music that I love consistently… Hopefully that leads to getting booked to play great shows where I can showcase that music to people who might not have heard it before.
