Yelfris Valdes to release remixed tracks from 2019 album

Afro-Cuban trumpeter, Yelfris Valdes released an album in 2019 titled, ‘For the One’s’. This Project displayed the mix of musical backgrounds the composer originates from. From live instrumentation to his journey in the Jazz scene, this LP showcased it all.

Fast forward a few years now and Yelfris will now collaborate with music label, Musica Macondo. The objective is to allow other producers to remix some of the much loved tracks from the 2019 LP, seemingly giving new life and energy into these songs.

Musica Macondo head, Tim Garcia explained, “It was a lot of fun putting this remix EP together with Yelfris, I wanted to pick artists that would respect the music and Yelfris’ compositions but bring a whole new dimension to it, I’m really happy with how it turned out, being able to work with so many of my favourite producers on this has been a bit of a dream.”

The producers tasked with reviving the stand out tracks from this LP are, Osunlade, Quantic, K15, LCSM, Contours and Maxwell Owin. With the opportunity to listen to this project before its release, we will be determining if expectations meet reality.

Osunlade kicks off this project with his Soul Mix of ‘After Sly’. Still ever present is Yelfris’ trumpet but now surrounded by a Deep House environment. The beat is a little less melodic, but more smooth with the with instrument transitioning.

Giving track, ‘Aceleyo Ana’ a futuristic feeling is Quantic. There is a break in the beat where Yelfris’ trumpet shines, my word this is a great bridge. This remix has such a good rhythmic element to it; Quantic brings futuristic sounds to the present.

Contours is up next and transforms the chilled melodic track, ‘Maktub’, into a straight up house track. With influences from the 90’s Chicago House scene, this will be the track that gives you a spring in your step.

With each producer seemingly achieving the targeted goal of bringing a new dimension to the track, we feel like more tracks from the LP could have been added and more producers given the opportunity to shine.

Nevertheless the expectation was met, each original track was respected and Yelfris’ craft was appreciated and celebrated.
