Bernie Grant Arts Centre (BGAC), the home of Black-led creativity in Tottenham, has announced its annual Windrush Block Party on 22nd June, marking the 76th year of the Empire Windrush’s arrival.
Commemorating the incredible contribution Caribbean migrants and their families have made to the UK, the open-air event is set to be jam packed with live music, DJ sets, spoken word performances, food vendors and creative displays – offering a vibrant showcase of Caribbean culture and talent.
This year’s performers include DeeRiginal, 2fox, Hear Me Out, Band Jamm, HIIRTZ and Roman Harris. Chantz Dee will return as the resident DJ, accompanied by Wild G hosting on the mic. For those who want to soak up the day of culture, £5 tickets can be found here, with a pay what you can scheme and free tickets for under 2s and over 65s.
Opening its doors in 2007, BGAC has been committed to championing marginalised voices and talent, ensuring they are given space, status and a chance to thrive. As London’s Black-led combined arts venue, BGAC is devoted to creating a world in which Black artists, creatives and performers no longer have to fight to have their stories made.
Now in its sixth year, the Windrush Day Block Party is a core part of the summer programme and for the first time, BGAC is offering emerging talent the opportunity to be involved with this year’s programme, alongside the likes of DeeRiginal and 2fox. For emerging DJs playing on the lineup, the opportunity will spotlight the next generation of talent in North London. For those looking for the opportunity to showcase their creativity, applicants with a connection to the area and from the Caribbean diaspora can apply from now, by submitting a DJ mix.
