Executively produced by the esteemed multi-instrumentalist Fred Cox, this project captures the whirlwind of Sophie’s late twenties—navigating toxic relationships, unforgettable nights out with friends, and chasing exhilarating highs. ‘KOKO’ embodies this era, with Sophie and her friends often ending wild nights at the iconic venue. Releasing this project now, as she undergoes a transformative period in life, feels perfectly timed for reflection. Ten months into sobriety, Sophie chose the playful ‘Hold My Drink, Watch This’ to show her newfound confidence and resilience. Reflecting on the project, she shared, “I was fortunate to create this with amazing people I genuinely love and respect, including my favourite producers, Youth XL from LA and Fred Cox, who executive produced the whole thing.”
Sophie grew up in Brighton and spent most of her adult life in London, with music having always been her lifeline, helping her navigate life’s challenges—from the loss of her father at a young age to her mother’s battle with alcoholism and the everyday complexities of living with ADHD. Her upbringing was far from conventional, Sophie moved frequently over the years, spending most of her time between London, Amsterdam, LA and Ibiza. During this time, her survival left her spiralling into a lifestyle of drugs, sex, debauchery and an ongoing search for contentment. Today, Sophie has found peace and balance and has undergone a profound lifestyle shift. Now, ten months sober, she has left London for the tranquillity of the countryside, where she devotes her time to making music and cultivating a healthy lifestyle – she’s on a mission to become self-sufficient, growing all her fruit and vegetables.
In addition to her creative pursuits, Sophie is passionate about mentoring and hosting regular showcases at 91 Living Room and Soho House for rising artists, which has featured Nia Smith, Nectar Woode, Amber Simone, MRCY lead singer Kojo, Izzy Withers, amongst others. She also works with Audio Active, a non-profit organisation that fosters social change through music and helps develop emerging talent. Sophie has a deep passion for both writing and performing while hosting regular jam sessions and supper clubs, collaborating with talented artists such as Stormzy, Reuben James, Erick The Architect, CARRTOONS, Jay Prince, Kwaku Asante, Fred Cox, and five-time Grammy nominee Linden Jay, (produced “The Right Side of Wrong” while also being a close friend) amongst others. These artists have become a second family, inspired her, and played a significant role in shaping her signature sound and style.
Enigmatic and captivating, Sophie evokes the spirit of timeless musical icons. Drawing from a broad and diverse musical palette, her inspirations range from the soulful voices of Jazmine Sullivan, Marvin Gaye, and Donny Hathaway. Blending elements of Jazz, R&B, and Soul, Sophie’s sound transcends genres. Since her breakout in 2017 with the hit single ‘Say So’ featuring Midnight Phunk, Sophie has been making waves in the music scene. A significant milestone in her career came in 2022 when she collaborated with Stormzy on the single ‘Heart Is On My Sleeve,’ a standout track from her debut EP ‘The Right Side of Wrong’. The EP garnered widespread acclaim, solidifying Sophie’s place in the industry. 2024 has already been a standout year for Sophie. Her recent singles— ’Call You’ ’Freudian Slips,’ ‘Dopamine,’ and ‘Missing Me’—received praise from tastemakers like Victoria Jane, Target, Jess Iszat, Jamz Supernova and DJ Ace.
Alongside these releases, Sophie embarked on her ‘Hold My Drink’ tour, performing across seven UK locations, culminating in a sold-out show at Lafayette. Sophie’s live performances have become a must-see, especially with her band on stage. In the past year, while remaining sober, she has performed at Glastonbury, Jazz Café, KOKO, and even supported Odeal at the Outernet and Chic founder Nile Rodgers at his headline show at Ludlow Castle, further enhancing her reputation as a dynamic live act. Building on this reputation, her latest EP, ‘Hold My Drink, Watch This’, marks only her second EP release—but it’s powerful. This project is filled with honesty, diving deep into her roots and journey, bringing a raw, unfiltered authenticity that truly sets her apart. Each track is a bold testament to her unique voice and perspective, making it a project that will stand the test of time and no doubt grow her fan base in the UK and beyond
