After a jam-packed summer playing festivals around the world alongside the best in the business, 22-year-old DJ, songwriter and producer Silva Bumpa is ready to bring it back to the clubs. Taking immense inspiration from the sounds of Northern nightlife – particularly Sheffield’s legendary Niche nightclub – Silva Bumpa is today (17th November) bringing his producing know-how and pop sensibilities to the heady worlds of Organ House and UK Garage with the release of ‘What About The DJ?’, the first single off a brand new 5-track EP, forthcoming on Locked On Records.
“I’m obsessed with those old-school speed garage tracks where so many random samples are just whacked over a huge bass and drum pattern,” says Eagle of the inspiration behind the project’s first release. “Earlier this year I was collecting loads of cool-sounding vocal snippets from some old 90’s sample CDs and saving them – “What About The DJ?” is my attempt to string them together all in one song.”
And string them together he does. As the inaugural offering from his new project – out on Locked On in early 2024 – ‘What About The DJ?’ begins Bumpa’s tribute to the rich and bumpy history of UK Bass. Mixing wobbling basslines and hearty kick drums with raucous flair, vocals distort and fade into the track’s dark recesses to produce four minutes of nostalgic, pulse-raising, fairground-fitting flavour.
Teased to clubgoers in their thousands in recent sets from the likes of Interplanetary Criminal, the track is fast becoming Bumpa’s most-anticipated to date, and is set to accompany a new ‘Silva Bumpa Presents’ residency at Sheffield’s Hope Works starting November 25th.
