What more can we say at this point? Bush Hill Park legend Scorcher is almost two-decades deep into the UK rap dynasty; yet every time he pops up, he sounds as hungry he did on the dizzying, Y2K pirate radio stations. From acting in Top Boy’s first season back in 2010 down to his latest LP, ‘The Drama’ — everything Scorcher touches is imbued with his meticulous work ethic and world-building anecdotes.
After blessing fans with the deluxe edition to his beloved ‘The Drama’ record this February, Scorcher has teamed up with UK rap hitmaker Tion Wayne for their fresh new collaboration ‘Ops’.
On the single — produced by Joey Stickz — we catch the North London spitters demonstrate what they do best once again, shelling out quotables and slick one-liners left and right as they stand atop a cinematic, drillified set-piece.
Hailed as a “certified legend” by Complex UK, the 35-year-old rap veteran has shown no signs of stagnation since he was released from prison back in 2019. With a renewed mind state and a weathered street-sculpted perspective on things, ‘Ops’ plays out like a summer-ready victory lap for the Enfield rhymer.
Championed for being one of the most respected talents in Black British music space: Scorcher’s discography speaks for itself. Casting our minds back to the 2000s, Scorcher dropped classics such as ‘No One Else’ and ‘My Diary’, and kept up momentum with the 2020 banger ‘Stay Real’ alongside Snap Capone and Skeamer. Turning his hand to various creative outlets, the North London rapper’s continuous run has seen him conquer a multitude of creative industries.
Taking his love and skill for acting to the next level with roles in The Intent, Small Axe and the aforementioned beloved TV show Top Boy, Scorcher has redefined his position in the Black art landscape as a creative not shackled to pre-determined expectation.
Last year, the spitter kicked the year off with a bang. Scorcher selected as a guest judge for third season of the BBC’s award-winning show The Rap Game UK alongside Krept & Konan. Scorcher also featured on frequent collaborator Tion Wayne’s ‘Green With Envy’ LP on cut ‘Make It Out’, alongside road rap trifecta Potter Payper, Rimzee, and Joe Black.
After dominating last year with relative ease — we eagerly anticipate the rapper’s next chess move after ‘Ops’.
