Odyssey Club EP

The journey continues by welcoming the artist Pura Pura in our big family.

Straddling between rap influences, a fervent defender of 808 rhythms, and metallic club sounds, the artist from Montpellier offers us a colorful palette of tracks paying tribute to different historical currents of the electronic music scene. While making these tracks sound like a club in order to offer his audience breathless and heady rhythms, which will take over the crowds this fall. With the signing of the “Odyssey Club” EP, we are proud to represent the essence of our origins, with a cinematographic project that promotes the raw energy of a successful late-night journey.

The richness of this EP comes from the combination of tracks creating a unique musical work, which will bring the audience throughout the tracks to feel a palette of familiar emotions without equivocation. A progressive, immersive, almost cinematic, even exhilarating odyssey. Pura Pura is an ambassador of the genre hybridization and has always been influenced by different styles (juke, breakbeat, club music, rap) that make his musical proposal rich.

With “VVVictory“, Pura Pura sets the scene and offers a real introduction. This track is based on a haunting melody, almost disturbing, which will make the listener dive/sink into an atmosphere, cutting him from his reality. Built from a rap instrumental, the artist has modified the drums to bring a club touch to the track, exercise very appreciated from Pura Pura.

We continue with an energy to the origins of the club music with “Feel the 808“, which is a track mixing a bass realized on MS20 with an 808 instrumental, very largely inspired by the murderous drops of the pieces of actual rap. The whole is enhanced by the repetitive and haunting voice of Karlita, a tribute to the vocals of Ghettotech.

Music Maestro“, banger of the EP, mixes in an assuming way the influences: from the vocal of T99 that was a landmark track in the life of the artist, to the cuttings of the Funky Drummer break, passing by the stab house and the tones of TR-808 that reminds the Ghettotech.

We end this sound experience with “Odyssey Club” which is a post-club track allowing Pura Pura to leave his artistic comfort zone by conceding part of the creation to the machine: the breaks have been automated so that the musical rendering is random. This results in phases alternating between silence, breaks and an extremely scathing drop.

This sound experimentation gives birth to a transcendental work, which will be able to transport the listener in an environment where the audacity of the club summons the dance, the celebration, and on a wider scale, the emancipation of the existences. With this project, Pura Pura proposes a 360° club vision: “VVVictory” would be played as a warm-up, while “Odyssey Club” would embody the closing of a successful set. On this subject, a tour in three French cities (Rennes, Montpellier, Paris) – dear to the heart of the artist – will be carried out and will honor each of the energies present in the EP thanks to a line-up especially thought for the club.

“This EP is a condensed version of the kind of sounds I want to listen to in the club. I drew on my inspirations to create these four tracks that sound like me: between “VVVictory” and its rap-inspired melodies, “Feel the 808” with Karlita’s haunting vocal that echoes ghettotech but also the 808 bass that I love so much, “Music maestro” is a condensed version of club music that just keeps going up in intensity while “Odyssey Club” and its breaks take over everything else.”  Pura Pura.
