Odeal hasraised the bar for this project, starting with his incredible COLORS debut for ‘All That It Takes’, a song that expresses a mixture of conflicted emotions clouded by infatuation.
Following was a sold-out show at Outernet and stand-out singles ‘You, The World Vs Me’ and, most recently, ‘Fine By Myself’, which set the vulnerability tone from the beginning. Spanning just over twenty minutes, Odeal opens the project with ‘Landminds’, an intro packed with strings and symphonies, as he expresses how his feelings for one person, in particular, go unmatched.
“On The Ground” sees the relationship bursting with chemistry and lust whilst pleading for her to let her guard down. The intimate moments continue with “Bedroom Weather”, which is captured perfectly in the opening lyric “I’ve got an XL sweater, it fits you perfectly for bedroom weather”, and overflow into ‘Water’ with Odeal exclaiming he’s “lost at sea” as he gives all of himself to his lover.
Throughout the EP, the tone takes a turn with an emotive breakdown and breakthrough on “Rigour Mortis” as feelings of love switch to pain and anger. Closing the project is “Gave You My All”, which zooms out and sees the relationship as a whole, ‘from kissing and cuddling, all night long you tell me our problems, now i can’t stand to see you in public’, arching from love to lost.
Born in Germany, the 23-year-old musician was raised between Nigeria, Spain and the UK and has been immersed in diverse cultures his whole life. His varied upbringing has led to his fusion of Alte, R&B and Afro, fast-tracking him into becoming the voice to watch out for over the past few years.
Along the way, Odeal has worked with artists such as Nines, Enny, K-Trap and Gabzy, to name a few, and has proven how valuable a verse from him can be.
