Always impressive with their charismatic flow and tongue in cheek delivery, NSG have become the UK’s frontrunners when it comes to good vibes. The East London six piece, of Ghanaian and Nigerian descent, continue momentum from last year’s AREA BOYZ album with a new deluxe version boasting six new tracks with features from the likes of Ghanaian superstar Stonebwoy, Nigerian rapper BlaqBonez and London MC Slim. The new offerings elevate an already acclaimed album, which featured a star-studded line-up including the likes of Aitch, Tion Wayne, Meekz, Steel Banglez Nines, ODUMODUBLVCK amongst others, acting as a standout reminder of the group’s ability to call upon the world’s hottest collaborators and innate skill in crafting some of the most energetic music in the scene right now.
Waving the flag for the UK’s thriving Afrobeats scene, NSG have left an undeniable imprint in the UK’s music landscape since the release of their highly infectious track “Options” in the latter half of 2018 featuring Tion Wayne, which peaked at #7 on the Official UK Charts and the #1 spot on Spotify’s UK Viral Chart, sparked a viral dance craze, and a subsequent string of infectious releases including “OT Bop”, “Lupita” and “Kate Winslet”.
Building on their runaway 2020 successes – including the pinnacle release of the mixtape Roots, with NME describing it as a project that “lives up to their chart-topping reputation”, making history as the first act to hit the #1 spot on the Official Afrobeats Chart and winning ‘Visual of the Year’ at the return of the MOBOs — NSG dominated 2021 with the release of their Headliner EP featuring key collaborations with Mist, Patoranking and long-time collaborator JAE5 whilst receiving accolades from the likes of BILLBOARD, COMPLEX, WONDERLAND and HYPEBEAST, and showstopping performances of their summer smash hit ‘Petite’ at that year’s MOBO Awards.
More recently, 2023 saw NSG team up with Manchester rapper Meekz for acclaimed single “Unruly”, as well as dropping a collaborative project with one of London’s most respected artists, Rimzee. Add to this the impactful launch of staple The Area Bar in Accra, Ghana, NSG continue to strive to shine in their own lane, while continuing to push forward the Afro-inspired cultural scene they have passionately helped to pioneer.
