Fully emersed in earthy, retro undertones, Wolverhampton-born artist NEONE The Wonderer’s latest eclectic offering “RagJazz” floats atop warm Rhodes and bright percussion. The artist delivers sparkling clarity in a rich vocal performance whilst underlining his deep cultural Jamaican heritage.
Laced with introspective touches, the jazz-infused instrumental quickly evolves into hazy hip-hop breaks, allowing space for NEONE to put his lyrical ability front and centre – depicting the philosophy and value of free thought. Exploring the perceptions of normality while challenging the cultural boundaries set in his way, NEONE emerges as an inspired, conscious new talent in the landscape.
Speaking on the “RagJazz”, NEONE mentions: “”RagJazz” was actually my first attempt of trying to fuse genres after writing an essay breaking down fusion as a colliding of cultures and not just genres, I started it 5 years ago. I still remember showing it to a reggae band at the time and being told “this isn’t reggae” then they tried to “fix” it for me. Thankfully I knew not to listen to them, and I found the old file finished it off.”
A true alchemist of the creative arts, NEONE The Wonderer has quickly developed an exciting reputation for his free-form musicality shining with purpose and authenticity. The captivating stories between his environment and lyrical journey through myth, wonder and life experiences have been showcased across stages at Sofar Sounds, Soho House, Camden’s Jazz Café and The Great Escape.
With support slots for the likes of Ivan Ave and highly-acclaimed vocalist James Gillespie, while working alongside some of the most innovative underground talents across London including Eerf Evil and Meron T,
NEONE has drawn swift critical attention across the likes of BBC 1XTRA (Jamz Supernova), RINSE FM, REPREZENT and NTS. Delivering fresh, impactful thoughts, NEONE is feeling like one of the most important new voices emerging into the London ether right now. With a multitude of performances across the UK confirmed this year, get ready to see a whole lot more from this significant talent.
