Fully emersed in earthy, retro undertones, Wolverhampton-born artist NEONE The Wonderer’s latest eclectic offering “RagJazz” floats atop warm Rhodes and bright percussion. The artist delivers sparkling clarity in a rich vocal performance whilst underlining his deep cultural Jamaican heritage.
Laced with introspective touches, the jazz-infused instrumental quickly evolves into hazy hip-hop breaks, allowing space for NEONE to put his lyrical ability front and centre – depicting the philosophy and value of free thought. Speaking on the “RagJazz”, NEONE mentions: “”RagJazz” was actually my first attempt of trying to fuse genres after writing an essay breaking down fusion as a colliding of cultures and not just genres, I started it 5 years ago. I still remember showing it to a reggae band at the time and being told “this isn’t reggae” then they tried to “fix” it for me. Thankfully I knew not to listen to them, and I found the old file finished it off.”
