With deep-rooted lyricism and eclectic vibrations at the forefront of her high-calibre artistry, the Saint Lucia native continues to offer shining authenticity across her latest cut. Gliding atop sharp percussive textures and heavy-set basslines, Melica’s rich vocal performance perfectly encapsulates her journey towards reconciliation and the exploration of her past hardships that left reality in disarray. Longing for redemption and enlightenment, her deep Caribbean heritage elevates the infectious soundwaves into pure bliss, creating an inspired harmony between the rising talent’s storytelling and the vibrant silhouettes portrayed across the honey-soaked visualiser.
Originating from Saint Lucia, Melica’s musical affinities are a product of her ever-changing creative environment. Strong influences of Reggae and R&B during her upbringing exposed the young artist to some of the most powerful connections across music, culture and community, before relocating to bubbling areas of London where she found true solace in music and performance. With the creative arts becoming a therapeutic output for self-expression, Melica’s stunning 2021 single “Don’t Say Sorry” – produced by Michelin Shin (Nines, Nafe Smallz, Wretch32) – catapulted her unshakable talent into the ether with significant support across BBC 1XTRA, REPREZENT and NO SIGNAL. All building up to key performances at Sofar Sounds and Cloud X Festival earlier this year – announcing an exciting voice blazing to new heights across the R&B landscape.
Now enlisted as a finalist across this year’s MOBO UnSung Class Of 2023, get ready to hear and see a whole lot more from an artist seamlessly inspiring the next generation of young creatives in their creative and ethereal journeys.
