Exclusive Interview With Matteo Floris
With the release of Shakaman EP, we not only premiered this tune on Beyond Noise but we had a chat with Matteo Floris. Check out where Mr Floris loves to DJ, what tracks he NEEDS to play and what he has in store for everyone going forward.
So break down Matteo Floris for us?
“I started making music around 8 years ago, It took time (years) to find my own style and I’m still learning many many things and continuously changing my producing workflow. I think moving to Barcelona really helped me understand which is the kind of electronic music I love since here I’ve the chance to listen many international djs and easily travel to other countries. In the last 5/6 years I had the opportunity to release my music on some of the top labels on the market also getting solid support from artists I really admire; I also played in many places like Belgium, Lithuania, Miami, Chicago, Los Angeles, London, Austria, Lisbon, Tenerife, Belfast, Ibiza, Italy… and of course Barcelona. So now just keeping doing my thing and enjoying it :)”
Describe the sound you produce in 3 words?
“Groovy, Sexy, Raw.”
Inform us how ‘Wollongong’ EP came about? Its namesake track is fire! Makes you wana take over the dance floor
“I love this EP and I think is really solid, probably one of my best work by far, also happy it came out on Hector Couto’s ROUSH which is currently one of my fav labels. The whole EP reflects my sound and my skills since by listening to the 3 tracks you can notice some rolling groove, involving basslines, sampled vocal cuts, original vocal lyrics and underground housy vibes.”
What track does Mr Floris HAVE to play on a set?
“Waze & Odyssey – On The Down Low”.
The next release, Shakaman is an absolute banger. What where the influences behind this track?
“Glad you dig it guys, I received great feedbacks and support on this one, also remixes are sick! Influences came from old school Chicago house, breaks, hip hop vox sampling and of course from other house / tech house tracks I used to play often in my sets. I made this track long time ago, now I changed my producing vibe a little bit…but I recently played Shakaman during one of my last gigs and I have to say it works really well on the dance floor :)”.
Which DJ can make you get up and onto the dancefloor?
“Martinez Brothers, Jesse Perez, Dj Sneak, Jamie Jones, wAFF, Detroit Swindle, Honey Dijon, Dennis Ferrer and many many more!”
So playing ‘Snoozy’ in the office had the place wanting to host a dance off! Inform us how this track came to be cos wow!
“Happy you dig this one too! I made Snoozy long long time ago, it came up quickly and I would say in a freestyle mood, I wasn’t thinking on any label while producing it and Daylight Robbery Records was a perfect home for this tune, got strong support especially on Traxsource where I reached position #31 on Tech House Top100 and selected on Essential Tech chart.”
Where is your favourite place to DJ?
“Is hard to choose one because I love the intimate underground vibes of a small dark club but I also love to play in a big open air daytime festival. I definitely have more fun when I’m close to the crowd instead of when I’m on a big stage separated from the dance floor. Even I played in many places all around the world, Barcelona could be my fav one because is where I feel at home and I love to be surrounded by my friends and share party actions with them :)”

“At the moment I would say: Martinez Brothers / Jesse Perez / Dj Sneak”
What can we expect from Matteo Floris in the coming seasons?
“Fresh new music as always, I’m now signing new EPs on wicked labels which I cannot disclose now…new podcasts coming out via Toolroom Radio and Music On Radio, few international gigs in Tenerife, Gran Canaria, London, Italy + my local gigs here in Barcelona. Also, I recently joined RSH Management owned by Antonio Melo who will take care of my Bookings as well…so more news will follow soon for sure!”
