The ‘My Way’ video was directed by Billy King over two days and shot entirely on film to capture a sleek 70’s era vibe matched with a satirical tone throughout. The bright styling and elaborate sets further emphasise the nostalgic theme, which sets the stage for Maleek as we witness his character take on various comical roles, including a luggage porter, a supermarket clerk and a Postman. Following a brief hiatus, the Maleek we all know and love is back, and in album mode, he has set his sights on reclaiming his crown within the thriving global scene. Arguably one of the most influential musicians in the UK for bringing his sound of African to the masses, Maleek is ready to pick up where he left off. Celebrated for making songs for the ladies, ‘My Way’ embodies elements of both old and new-school Maleek, capturing his warmth with an instantly recognisable melody and playful lyrics.
“I’m excited to be back with a brand new visual for my fans. Some of my favourite videos have been shot on film so we wanted to give my fans a taster into the next era of my music with the video “My Way”, the first offering from my forthcoming debut album.“
Maleek’s career to date is admirable, and his fans have remained incredibly loyal as he’s evolved from a game-changing producer into an international artist. Clapham born and raised South London has been hugely influential with its rich musical DNA, most notably, Maleek grew up close to the iconic So Solid Crew, who helped pave the way for him to follow his dreams. His earliest memories of music started at secondary school, where he began making beats for a Grime group but fast forward to 2011 and with an urge to return to Lagos, where his family are from, Maleek found himself making music for the likes of Davido and Wizkid and the rest is history. Since then, Maleek has been instrumental in kicking down doors for the incredibly vast popular genres stemming from Africa (most commonly dubbed Afrobeats) and bringing them to worldwide audiences.
With never-ending credentials to his name, the double MOBO nominee’s biggest hits thus far include BRIT-certified silver ‘Kontrol’ and BRIT-certified gold ‘Sit Back Down’. This distinctive musician who effortlessly does it all has so much more to share with the world, with 2023 poised to be his year. Maleek’s global sound is about to be taken to new heights, with some huge collaborations soon to be shared as he sets to release his highly anticipated debut album, ‘If Only Love Was Enough’. Last week Maleek joined Reekado Banks and Adekunle Gold on ‘Feel Different’, Maleek also recently performed alongside the likes of; Ckay, Nikita Kering, Pheelz, Sarkodie, and Compozers with the BBC 1xtra Afrobeats orchestra.
