Legendary Roska proves UK Funky is not dead.

UK Funky for many conjures memories of a specific moment in time. Like many other UK underground scenes, there’s an ebb and flow.

Moments where it feels like you can’t go anywhere without hearing that particular sound played everywhere. Radio, TV & Clubs all descend to create an ecosystem of Artists, DJs & Events that formulate a scene.

And other moments where the light is that bit dimmer. No new artists, no new music, and no events. The flow that was once there becomes more difficult to find. Forcing followers to decide either to move on from the scene completely. Or continue the crusade just a more underground version than before.

Legendary producer Roska has been at the forefront of this movement for over a decade and shows no signs of slowing down. His Kicks and Snares label has been the driving force behind keeping UK Funky alive in its new form.

So when news of his Roska Presents UK Funky series hit the inbox, attendance was a necessary requirement.

The review!

Let’s start at the top. Boxpark, Shoreditch has an intimate charm that creates a unique atmosphere between the DJ & the crowd. Being literally within touching distance of your favourite DJ or performer always helps bring the best out, Roska didn’t disappoint.

Roska in the mix

Playing some naughty dubplates, remixes & timeless classics all combined with some dirty Kicks & Snares made this event a foot-stomping sweatbox, in a positive way. Our only criticism was the MC/Hypeman partnering Roska didn’t seem to be the same energy as Roska himself. Otherwise, this would have been a 5-star event. Roska Presents UK Funky @ Boxpark gets a strong 4-stars from our street review team.
