Setting sound system culture ablaze with sounds showered in smooth, melodic intimacy, “SHEDOENEED” instantly emerges as one of afro-dancehall’s hottest crossovers this year. Boasting sultry guitar licks and bouncy percussive textures, the sleek instrumental lays the perfect foundation for King Cruff to showcase his irresistible falsetto with typical finesse. A vivid silhouette of an exciting love interest surfaces, with lyrical affirmations guiding the signature melodic acrobatics of international superstar Stonebwoy to an atmosphere of pure lust. Flaunting a chilling cadence, fellow Caribbean vocalist Jag.Huligin joins the fold as the trio demonstrates an ear-bending amalgam of Black musical styles at the highest level, now cementing themselves as a formidable force in the landscape.
A distant relative of reggae legend Bob Marley, Cruff aka Solomon Marley-Spence has been surrounded by powerful inspirations from an early age. Growing up in Kingston, Jamaica exposed him to some of the most vibrant influences across music, culture and community; from early teenage sightings of Tyler The Creator and MF Doom to witnessing Damian and Stephen Marley become Grammy Award-winning musicians, King Cruff has gone on to share centre stage with Skip Marley at NYC’s SummerStage and earn a key performance at Afro Carib Festival in front of 30K people across the African and Caribbean community. Fully embodying the breadth of the Black sonic diaspora, the rising talent will continue to underline himself as one of the most exciting talents crashing into wider consciousness.
Now residing in Toronto, Canada and signed to the infamous Jamaican label Tuff Gong Collective/ Universal Music, King Cruff has been quietly perfecting his craft while drawing on his own audio engineering background. Recalling the musicality from nostalgic sound clashes to new wave hip-hop, the multidisciplinary artist has delivered a stream of addictive singles including “Samurai Chop” and “Soufflé” – a playful, high-calibre style fuzzed over low-end beats evoking shades of KAYTRANADA and Channel Tres.
With a plethora of confirmed releases still to come, King Cruff’s impulse for storytelling bars and infectious instrumentals is quickly poising him as one of dancehall’s next contemporary stars in the making.
