And announces Sensei II EP launch party with Ikonika, Tash LC, Mista Silva and more

The aptly dubbed ‘Goddess of Rhythm’, KG, shares the glorious, emotive roller ‘Mantra’ ft. Taliwhoah. Teaming up with the acclaimed London-born, LA-based r&b artist, this is the third single from KG’s sensational, genre-blending forthcoming EP Sensei II dropping 25th June via Black Acre Records. Garnering widespread support from the likes of Resident Advisor, Crack, Mixmag, DJ Mag, The Independent and more with recent afrobeat summer bop ‘Koko’ with fellow British-Ghanaian artist Mista Silva and the rich, frenetic ‘Nzinga’, a collab with South African afro-rave pioneer Toya Delazy, new single ‘Mantra’ is a laidback, sun-kissed love song. A heady blend of Taliwhoah’s luscious vocals, shimmery pads and KG’s signature rolling percussion, Mantra is another truly incredible collaboration, highlighting KG’s versatility and artistic mastery – hence the title ‘Sensei’.

Speaking on the single, KG says:

“‘Mantra’ –  a person’s slogan, strong belief etc. In this song, Taliwhoah affirms that she is intentional with who she loves, she feels real things. This track has Future House/R&B remnants – we wanted to make this a euphoric roller for the listener to vibe to, to relate to. It is a love song.”

Dropping 25th June Sensei II is a powerful, sunshine-filled EP with five emotive tracks, covering everything from the empowerment of women, to love, sexuality and desire, high vibrations, partying and beyond. Collaborating with a host of incredible artists including Aymos, Toya Delazy, Taliwhoah and Mista Silva, sonically, the project spans Afrobeats, UK Funky, Gqom, R&B and beyond. Her sound firmly rooted in the African diaspora, KG wanted the essence of ‘back home’ to be felt throughout the whole project.

Marking the release of Sensei II, on the 2nd July, KG will celebrate the release with an all-star line up in East London’s gorgeous rooftop spot, NT’s Loft. Expect the vibrant, sun-soaked sounds of Amapiano, Gqom, Afrobeats, UK Funky, and more, with Hyperdub icon Ikonika, radio sweetheart and revered global sounds selector Tash LC (NTS/Worldwide FM/Kiss FM), the UK’s leading Afro House DJ Kitty Amor, and KG herself bringing Mista Silva along on hosting duties. A multi-faceted artist, DJ, producer, and broadcaster, KG has been an innovative and percussive dance music luminary for nearly a decade. With African polyrhythms, low-end sub-basses, and energetic drum patterns that showcase the evolving sound of London’s club music hybridity and bounce, are also rooted in the British – Ghanaian’s sense of home.

Returning in 2018 after a short break from the music industry, KG has fast become a globally adored name. Releasing on both seminal and newcomer UK labels including Hyperdub, Future Bounce and Goon Club Allstars, she has found fans in tastemakers FACT, Fader, Mixmag, Dummy, DJ Mag, Resident Advisor and more as well as taking Berlin’s clubbing institution Berghain / Panorama Bar by storm during CTM Festival 2020. KG has collaborated with prolific underground acts across global and diasporic club music genres from South African Amapiano to US Jersey Club including Scratcha DVA, Uniiqu3, Toya Delazy, Mista Silva and more. A newly appointed Capital FM host, KG has also appeared on renowned stations like BBC Radio 1Xtra, Red Bull Music, NTS, Foundation FM (where she is resident) and Boiler Room – most recently taking part in the ‘Pxssy Palace x BBZ’ Streaming From Isolation session. Dedicated to inspiring and empowering the next generation of women in music tech, alongside Red Bull Music, she also runs music production workshops. KG was also recently awarded a PRS Grant as part of the new PRS Power Up initiative – a long-term initiative which will support Black music creators and industry professionals and executives, as well as addressing anti-Black racism and racial disparities in the music sector.

2021 is expected to be a huge year for KG, with all eyes on her as she embarks on this next chapter – her beautiful, frenetic, rich sound and striking creative vision knows no boundaries.
