With The release of their latest track, ‘Night and Day’ receiving much love, we got the opportunity to speak with Label, TruCulture. From how thestarted to future plans of starting back up events, we got a lot of information.
Let us in on who TruCulture are?
TruCulture is about the culture, founded by Jud and Fos. First and foremost we are a recordbased in South London,
We are also a social platform who organise music events in aim to support young people from disadvantage backgrounds giving them a better chance in life.
TruCulture is a hub where we get a lot of young people off the streets to be creative and to channel their energy into music.
How did you guys come together?
Myself and Fos came together a long time ago as we went to secondary school together, ever since we have been like brothers.
Your latest release with Tiny Boost sounds strong. How did this collaboration come about?
Thank you.
In all honesty this collaboration was orchestrated by Fos, during the lockdown. He was able to get Tiny Boost into our Studio in Bermondsey, where he told Tiny Boost about our vision and about our up-and-coming mixtape, called Da Glue.
As we are both friends with Tiny Boost and friends of course it wasn’t too hard to get him in the studio, this is where our producers got involved, as we have a producer called MAV, who also was part of the Tru Culture camp, MAV played Tiny Boost the beat, which he was feeling, and the rest is history, Myself Jud and I wasn’t at the studio when the track was recorded, but what I’m hearing from the whole camp is that It didn’t take Tiny Boost too long to come out with a banger in and out. Fos did call me straight away saying Jud, Tiny Boost has just done a madness for our tape, from what I heard over the phone and the first couple of lines I knew this was fire, Straight Banger.
Your aim to encouraging and advocating talent from many walks of life is really cool. What made you decide this is the direction you’re going to take?
To be honest this comes from myself and Jud, we have been doing a lot of positive work in the community for a long time, where can around the London borough of Southwark we have always supported young people or disadvantaged people involved in crime, Jud was doing youth work in Southwark, And I work with a lot of young people from Southwark that was involved in gangs helping to turn their lives around. Sometimes help them relocate going into training I find a job, this will began when I open the shop in Peckham, I could see the young people I had a voice for them, they attended my shop and sometimes would just wanna hang around, this is where I noticed that they could listen to me and I could promote positive activities for them this is where my passion is supporting to helping disadvantaged young people became a passion.
Do you have any other names you intend on working with?
Well on our next project that we are bringing out ‘Da Glue’ mixtape – we have Giggs on the tape, along with suspect, RA and Kyze, that’s just to name a few.
In the future, TruCulture would love to collaborate with the likes of Ghetts, Kano, Digga D, Dave, and JAY Z.
Are there plans for your own events down the line? Showcasing the talent you come across would be pretty sick.
Yeah that’s the background we came from before, as we were involved in a show called DA come up, Way before anyone ever heard the word Covid.
Da Come Up, Was a talent show where we would get a lot of artists from all different genres around the UK to compete in front of judges, the judges at a time where, Buck, Posty, Twin, and Julie Adenuga. This was a live show where the artists compete and then will have sore winner would’ve just had a team the winner for the first year was an artist called Dibo who is now with the TruCultureand the second year of winner was an artist called Brixx from Birmingham.
But this was all put to a pause because of funding issues and Covid, however we are planning to do more shows and get the artist on the TruCultureinvolved in live tours/gigs in the UK, that’s the plan, but at the moment we are taking it one step at a time, as we are focusing on the artists on our roster who we are releasing music, as we have a lot of work to do with the two artists on the record label ASBO and Dibo.
What tracks/artists did you guys discover during Lockdown?
ASBO, that’s who we discovered during lockdown, he’s special – nearly ready for his tape! He is so hungry it’s unbelievable.
What’s your favourite YouTube channel and why?
In all honesty I don’t really have a favourite we don’t really have a favourite YouTube channel, but if I was going to say my favourite I would say GRM Daily they’re very consistent.
What’s next for TruCulture?
I would say for TruCulture the mixtape coming next year 2022 that’s what’s next for us and releasing a mixtape for ASBO hopefully, possibly as late as December this year however it may have to be pushed back to January 2022, that’s about it just working grinding and making more hits doing movements for TruCulture bringing the truth into the culture within the music industry that’s what’s next for TruCulture.
