Following from his Pete Tong approved debut, ‘Discreet’ EP, Tjaro announced his arrival this summer with the release of the ‘What We’re Feeling’. We got the opportunity to speak with Tjaro regarding the this release and other aspects of his career.
Describe your sound in five words:
Warm, Diverse, Analogue, Hooky, Boozy
Your upcoming single, “What We’re Feeling,” radiates 90’s Garage/House vibes. What inspired the creation of this track?
I loved the idea of mixing a more soulful, old-school vocal with a speed garage-inspire bassline. I remember coming back from holiday around June of this year and only had the drums and bassline written out. I was trying out some chord patches and the track started to take on a slightly different, more emotional meaning from what I had initially intended. Once I found the vocal, it sounded like it was made for the tune.
Exploring your musical back catalogue, we came across your last EP, “Discreet,” featuring house tracks with a dance floor feel. How did this EP come about?
In the build up to the closing of Printworks, me and my Dad went to go and see Groove Armada, who were playing quite clubby old-school house tracks and had the place bouncing. So, the next day I got to work and had the bassline written out for ‘Discreet’ with the intention of creating a pumping, dancefloor club tune. The vocals added some nice sensuality. ‘Serule’ is much more of an ambient journey with layers of synths. Fine tuning all of the different elements of the track took a while to get right, and I ended up spending a good month or two on the mixdown.
With Pete Tong approving your debut, many tastemakers must have you on their radar now. Is there a dream collaboration you have on mood board? (speak it into existence)
For me, my dream collaboration will always be Overmono. When I first heard their tunes, I was completely blown away by the sonic clarity, and the way they mangle different samples and ideas together to achieve an amazingly warm and united sound which is unique to them. Their music has always resonated with me, and has had a huge impact on the way I make music. I was able to meet them in the Summer of this year, and it is one of the highlights of my career so far, so a massive shoutout to Tom and Ed.

What’s next for Tjaro?
I have another two-track EP coming out at the back end of November, which heads for more bass-heavy club territory, featuring elements of two-step garage and warehouse.
