Exclusive Interview with Tim Engelhardt

Following the release of his ‘Love Dose’ remix, we got the chance to speak with Tim Engelhardt about his work with Poker Flat Records and much more

We’ve had a sneak peak of your ‘Love Dose’ remix. Tell us about that process and why you chose that track to put your touch on?

On Love Dose it was the groove and memorable synth sounds that made me remix the track.I tried to put a different spin to it and embed the vocal and the synths in a very different framework, which concentrates more on automated chord patterns and a steady groove.

You’re a Poker Flat regular. How did this friendship come about and how is it working alongside them?

Poker Flat label was the first label to really support my music and put it out there. I respect them a lot and working with them is a breeze 10 out of 10 times.

We checked out your latest release, ‘Idiosynkrasia’. From the name to the concept of the project, tell us this album.

I always considered myself to be idiosyncratic, a bit off from the norm, maybe weird to some, but more relatable to others that are having similar experiences. That feeling was within me even as a child, honestly it’s just a term that describes me very well. I react quite heavily to disturbing noises, I can’t stand high-frequency sounds with high amplitude and I’m very sensitive to temperature too. I suspect it’s that what people notice first thing about the album, it’s carefully put together, nothing is playing too hectic.

I wanted to make sure it’s as fluid as possible and helps the listener getting into a zone, where they can forget about everyday worries (I know, cliche) but also get new input, trigger new ideas (which don’t have to be relating to music or art, rather just triggered by it) that will elevate and benefit their personal or even business life. If that happens just with one person, then the album has reached its goal and I’m happy.

The way that “Idiosynkrasia” tells its story is very gentle, humble and reflected, it doesn’t jump at you, at the same time it makes it very easy to get comfortable with it and just sit back. It’s a story about love, friends, nostalgia, longing for closeness and just as well troubles we all have to face in one way or another.

What were your influences while constructing this project?

I tried to limit my music consumption while writing the album, especially when I finished it.  I don’t think there were many influences from other artists or their pieces of music.

Which artists / Producers attract your ears and attention?

At the moment I love to listen to Duval Timothy.

What’s next in the pipeline for Tim Engelhardt?

A couple of interesting remixes and I’m obviously writing on more original material, which hopefully will be finished by next year. The next release is coming very soon, it’s called ‘Sun’ and will be out one of these days on Ukrainian Eleatics Records.
