Prolific house DJ and producer, Thierry Tomas, recently teamed up with Belgian producer, Pat Lezizmo for a two track on Steve Bug’s home for more reduced, hypnotic and raw sounds, Sublease Music. We recently sat down with Thierry to speak on how the tracks came about as well as tracks he thinks you need on your radar.
For those unaware, let us in on who Thierry Tomas is.
I’m a Dj, producer and mix engineer based in Lisbon now. Since 2010 I am the resident of Propaganda club (Moscow) and have been involved in various projects related to music. Ranging from own musical projects such as (Thierry Tomas, Defaultman, Rufus T, etc), to composing music for TV shows and creating educational materials for various DAW.
Describe your sound in five words
Deep Jazzy Bouncy Raw Sincere
We had the opportunity to check out your pending release, “The Boy Who Recorded Birds”. We’re feeling the skippy house and chilled vibes from this EP. Tell us about the thought process behind it.
I sent Pat one of my jams, he added chords, lot of chords))) layers and vocal samples, so all I needed to do after is take a few edits and done!) awesome dude!
It was about the same with the second track: I let myself create the track in a style that I wanted to work with for a long time. And again Pat added everything that was needed! I like his chords and textures very much. So it was very nice to work together.
How did the collaboration with Pat Lezizmo come about?
We have already worked together: it was a VA release on his label. I like his label’s sound and Pat’s works. Our musical visions are alike so our collaboration was just a matter of time I guess.
Going through your catalogue, you have several good releases. What is your favourite Thierry Tomas track?
Oh, it’s hard to catch one but I think My Style on Jump is my favorite for now!)
What five tracks could you not live without?
OMG, only five!)))
Kerri Chandler – Back to the Raw
Ken Lou – Bounce
DJ Romain – It’s the Spirit feat. Darryl D’Bonneau (83 West Vocal Remix)
RG25 – Tarism
Harry ‘Choo Choo’ Romero, Inaya Day – Just Can’t Get Enough (Choo Choo’s Main Vocal Mix)
With the 2023 festival season set to be a memorable one. Which festival would you love to perform at?
So what crossed first my mind, I think SuncéBeat and Sonar.
What’s next in the pipeline?
Next would be vinyl on Minor Notes rec with 4 wonderful house tracks with different flavors on it. I’m very excited. It should be by the end of this year, but maybe later.
