Producer and DJ Nicole Fiallo debuts on Doc Brown’s Unlearn Records with a two-track EP this Friday. We got the opportunity to speak with Nicole about the EP as well as previous music in her catalogue.
Let our readers know who Nicole Fiallo is?
I am 26 years old, Cuban-American, born and raised in Miami, FL and currently residing in Brooklyn, NY. I first learned how to DJ back in 2011 and started to learn music production in 2014, but it wasn’t until 2020 where I really started to find my sound.
Describe your sound using 5 words?
Eclectic. Diverse. Unique. Multicultural. Unpredictable.
We had the opportunity to check out your upcoming EP. We ’re digging the Tech energy each track brought to the table. What was the thought process behind this EP?
The idea for ‘Gimme Gimme’ and ‘I Wanna Jack’ came to me at two different times, but both were ideas that flowed naturally. The vocal cuts in each are what drove the ideas home for me. I knew with “I Wanna Jack” I needed that sound that made you really want to jack and I think the mid bass it features really gave it that drive it needed. And with ‘Gimme Gimme’, I played off the vocal cut saying ‘gimme more’ as I teased that main sample drop throughout the first 2 breaks, creating the climatic build up of the full sample in the last break where I ‘give you more’.
Checking out your catalogue, we came across your Classic Jam Edits. They sound great with Funky Green Dogs standing out. How did this edit come about?
‘Fired Up’ is an absolute classic! Growing up in Miami, that was definitely a staple in the music culture and club scene because of the incredible remix done by Miami natives MURK (Oscar G & Ralph Falcon). It was one of the first house tracks I really gravitated to, and that’s what my ‘Classic Jam Edit’ series is all about: breathing my own style into these classic records that I once enjoyed so much and have resonated with people for years.
What 3 songs you do believe people HAVE to know about?
Such a hard question, too many tracks to name! But if I HAD to choose 3 ‘hidden gems’: Robin S – Luv 4 Luv, Loleatta Holloway – Love Sensation, The Pointer Sisters – Automatic
Purist question, Pioneer or Technics?
Who would be your dream producer to work with?
Sam Divine or David Penn.
What would be your dream festival to perform at?
Kappa FuturFestival.
What’s next for Nicole Fiallo?
The sky is definitely the limit! I’ve got some more exciting releases lined up through the summer, with other projects currently in the works that I’m hoping to sign for the second half of the year, and hopefully some more show dates to announce soon too. I am thankful every day to be on this journey, and I’m just enjoying the ride.
