Exclusive Interview with Narda

With his EP about to be released, we got the opportunity to speak to Narda. From how the project came about to who he would love to do a back to back with, we found out a lot.

Please our readers in on who Narda is…

Purveyor of fine house music in London. Been around for a while. Love music that sounds like it was fun to make. Never using typical samples.

Describe your sound using 5 words.

Not another bloody house producer.

We’ve had a sneak peak at your upcoming project. The Electronic and Disco sound will definitely bring people to the dance floor. What was the thought process behind the creation of this EP?

I went through a period where I was making a good amount of music and releasing none of it between 2016 and 2019, which was the time these 3 tracks were created. When the label asked about releasing them, I brought the production quality up to date and Vinyl Matt is giving them the release they deserve.

Turn Up the Disco was the first project, based around boosting the energy of a lesser-used disco sample (recently found out Ian Pooley used it too). For someone that averaged 40 channels per production, the first draft had only 10 channels.

Bassbites was the second project, taking inspiration from another disco sample made popular by its inclusion in Master of None. There’s a sample from the movie Snatch in there, which I’d be surprised if anyone can point out.

The woman ranting in her car on Taking Notes was initially used for my track Metak (video attached), but became its own thing instead. One of the first cases of sourcing obscure samples, that has since become part of my signature.

This EP is set to be released on VINYLMATT MUSIC. How has it been working with them?

Definitely one of the most professional labels I’ve worked with, despite only just having started.

We heard that earlier in your career, you won multiple DJ competitions. So we ask, Pioneer or Technics?

Vinyl is fun but I spent my teenage years spinning CDs – Pioneer.

You’re doing your retirement set live to the world. What three tracks HAVE to be played in your set?

First track I ever played live, only fitting it be my last, still a banger: Kid Culture, El Mundo & Satori – Gotta Help

Jackin/Chicago house has been a huge part of my life since my teens, so I’d include one of the tracks that started it all for me and one of the absolute best in the genre: Mario Fabriani – The Groove Bug

A track of my own that would be the perfect last track as the track builds up to a climax with strings and vocal effects made on a plugin that Mac’s OS can’t run anymore: Narda – You Know (Reprise)

If you could go back to back with any DJ, who would it be?

No DJ has ever impressed me as much as Jarreau Vandal. We would go through dozens of genres without anyone noticing the BPM changing.

What’s your favourite YouTube channel?

Probably my favourite producer, Pogo, creates great videos to go along with his tracks

My favourite DJ from the YouTube 10-minute-mix era was Nanuq

A couple of my favourite comedy channels are Bill Wurtz and Incendium

What’s your favourite Disney film? And don’t lie!

Peter Pan out of the classics, Finding Nemo for Pixar.
