Glasgow house duo Macka & Lowree return with their highly anticipated debut album Without The Music (I Don’t Know Where I’d Be Dancin’). We got the opportunity to speak with the guys about how they captured the old school vibe for the album, tracks they feel you need to hear immediately and much more.

For those unaware, tell us? Who are Macka & Lowree?

Macka & Lowree are Scottish dance music duo currently based in Glasgow. Two music lovers that were very good friends and since starting to create and work together – haven’t stopped for a second.

Describe your sound in five words

Emotive Good Times, High Energy

We got a sneak peek of your upcoming album. We’re loving the old school vibe you guys deliver on this project. Tell us more about the process of creating this album?

The whole process took us around 2-3 months to complete. It consisted of many late nights working between our studio and our flats. We had an idea of what we wanted some tracks to sound like before we set out to start the project but then others just came to us spontaneously, like maybe if we’d had a weird day – we would meet up in the studio and then a fews hours later we would have this track that we couldn’t stop dancing too. We genuinely both love the 90s sound and old school vibe, so the influence always just naturally comes.

What is your favourite track from the album?

It’s incredibly hard to pick one but we would have to go with Bring The Beat Back or Affection.

As a duo, give us five tracks you feel people need to hear immediately.

Bklava – Only For Tonight (Big Miz Remix)

Elvin T – Get Close

Terrence Parker – Why After All This

C & M Productions – Brief As Possible

Manakinz – Big Zippa

With Festival season here, you guys are holding down a residency at La Cheetah Club. Tell us which event/festival would you most like to perform at & why?

Instantly we both said Glastonbury as the festival we’d both like to play at, along with the history, the stories we’ve heard from friends just make it seem like the ultimate festival. Circoloco at DC10 would be an absolute dream as well.

If you could get in the studio with any producer, who would it be?

Kerri Chandler

What is next for you guys?

We are playing some special shows for the album along with our good friend Sonedo who will be playing the keys live during the set. Tickets to the Edinburgh Album Launch night can be found here – https://ra.co/events/1535326
