Beyond Noise sat down with House Producer and upcoming star Louis Benton for a quick chat about his latest release on Get Twisted Records
So who is Louis Benton? I am a DJ/Producer from a town in the West Midlands called Kidderminster, which is between Worcester and Birmingham!.
What / who got you into music? Now there’s a story close to my heart! I first got into music at the age of 11 after my Dad, who was a funky house DJ, tragically passed away in a car accident. A few months later, his wife to be at the time, gave me his prized possession, which were his mixing decks. Since then my love for music has blossomed.
What / who got you into music? I’ve been writing and featuring on my own music for about 7 years, however I’ve been producing music using Logic for about 3 years now
Checking out your catalogue, we heard and loved ‘Ménage A Trois’. What are your musical influences?Haha, ‘Ménage A Trois’! The song written about a threesome! That song was written by a chap called Mr Limey! I sing in the chorus. That particular track was produced by the Bass Don, Chris Lorenzo.
My musical influences are my Dad for sure, and a whole heap of different artists. I get inspired to make a wide range of house music, from real dirty bass stuff, to uplifting euphoric stuff like ‘Overcome’. I have never been narrow-minded with music. I started off playing funky house for years, to being in a band, to playing & making bassline & jackin’, which has all lead me to and influenced the sound I have today. So, I guess my biggest influence is myself!
What was the thought process to creating ‘Overcome’?I wanted to create something euphoric, hands in the air sort of thing, using a synth sound over a bass, and lots of atmospheric pads that almost make you want to cry! I click with Malisha’s voice and find her really easy to work with. I get inspired to write a good track when she sends me a vocal.
How did the collaboration with Malisha Bleau for the new release ‘Overcome’ come about? Her vocals compliment the beat so well. It came as a follow up to ‘Virus’, and it has done a lot better. Her vocals are amazing. She gets it right first time as well! We didn’t have to re-record anything. She is a very talented girl and she holds it down well!.
We see you have a previous track with Malisha, ‘Virus’. Got any other tracks with her coming out? Virus’, yes, loved making that! We are in talks about doing another track together yes, you will have to wait and see! Haha.
Are there any artists you wish to work with down the line? Or any festivals you crave to tear down.. I’d love to work with more great singer/songwriters as Malisha is the first vocalist I’ve worked with. Being a vocalist myself, I’ve always focused on writing and singing the tracks myself, but to start working with other vocalists such as Malisha has been great. A person I’ve always wanted to get on a track is my sister Olivia – she has an absolutely amazing voice! And festivals, I hope to get on some nice festivals next year. I’d love to play at We Are FSTVL, Made, Creamfields… S**T, I’d love to play at them all! Haha.
What is in the pipeline musically for Mr Benton? A hell of a lot more music, you can count on that. My mind is always ticking, so expect to see a lot more from me!
