Exclusive Interview With Jean Claude Ades

Jean Claude Ades has been a fixture on the global scene for the past two decades, elevating international stages and high-profile residencies with his unique, signature take on electronic music. With his latest release, ‘Together’, now out, we got the opportunity to speak to the creative about this anthem and much more.

Let us in on who Jean Claude Ades is.

I’m a DJ and producer with French and German backgrounds, boasting over 20 years in the music scene. I grew up in Italy, lived in Germany, and now call Ibiza and Lisbon home. Touring globally since the early 2000s, I’ve managed record labels and organized my own event ‘Be Crazy’ in Ibiza for years. You can catch me as the resident DJ at the famous Sunday party at Scorpios Mykonos for the last eight years.

Describe your sound using 5 words

Deep, uplifting, organic, melodic, housy.

Your latest release, ‘Together‘, lands on Scorpion Music. How did this venture come about?

I completed the recording of the track approximately two years ago, but I postponed its release due to having several variations and struggling to decide on the most fitting one. Then, during a casual chat with Re.You, I spontaneously proposed that he give a remix a shot. He was captivated by the track and readily agreed. Upon hearing his remix, I was impressed by the bassline and beats, motivating us to merge my original track with his remix. Through a collaborative exchange of stems, we eventually achieved the perfect fusion – thus giving birth to the track ‘Together‘.

Speaking of ‘Together‘, we are loving the Deep House vibes this track is emitting. What was the inspiration behind this release?

When I enter the studio, I find that inspiration often strikes unexpectedly. I typically begin by playing around with melodies on the piano or experimenting with different pads until I find a sound that resonates with me. From there, I focus on crafting a vocal melody that complements the music. This creative process was my approach during a session in Berlin with Dennis Scheffel, who contributed vocals to the track. I find that this organic and collaborative method allows me to bring my musical vision to life and create something truly special.

If you had to show the world the five best tracks ever created, what would they be?

Tough question,

Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 5 in C minor

Lucio Dalla’s “Caruso”

Prince’s “Purple Rain”

Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”

Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean”.

What is your favorite Jean Claude Ades release?

Over the past twenty-five years, I’ve produced numerous records, making it challenging to pick a favorite among them. However, one of the most significant records for me was JCA’s ‘I Begin to Wonder’ in collaboration with Dannii Minogue in 2003, which marked a breakthrough in my career. Since then, I’ve continued to produce a variety of records, including number 1 Beatport overall charts tracks like ‘Wallee De Larmes’, ‘Someday’, and ‘Shingaling’ as releases under my own label, Swings Records.

Later on, I created the second label called Be Crazy Music, named after my event in Ibiza for many years. Under Be Crazy Music, I’ve released numerous records, including tunes like ‘You Make Me Feel’ & ‘Mood that I Love’. Following this period, I launched Scorpios Music, dedicated to the vibrant scene of Scorpios Mykonos, where I have invested my time over the past three years. During this time, I created two significant remixes: one for Demayä, ARKADYAN feat. Yana Mann ‘Esperanza’ and another remix for Adassiya feat. P.Rivas & Lorenzo ‘Mektoub’, both of which became popular summer tunes. These remixes have garnered success and contributed to my journey in the music industry. Now I have my 3rd release ‘Together’ on Scorpios music label which will be released this Friday, April 19th!

Who would be your dream producer to work alongside?

My dream was to work with Prince, an unbelievable talent who unfortunately passed away. He was a genius music composer, songwriter, and producer with a multitude of skills. His unique approach to modulating organic sounds, including drums and guitars, as well as his distinctive vocals, captivated me. Prince’s innovative style and mastery of blending different elements in his music inspired me greatly. Although he is no longer with us, his legacy lives on through his music, and I believe that working with him would have been an incredible experience.

What’s the next step for Jean Claude Ades?

I’m looking forward to the upcoming summer with great enthusiasm, as it offers a perfect chance to dive into new ventures and explore different paths in my music journey. I’m especially excited about my upcoming gigs as a resident DJ at Scorpios in Mykonos and the new venue in Bodrum. The opportunity to blend different music genres and create distinct sounds is a source of genuine inspiration for me. Additionally, I am thrilled to announce that I am about to finish two more single records, adding to the excitement of the season ahead and the opportunities it brings for my musical exploration.
