Exclusive Interview with D&S

Chicago Tech House duo D&S have been moving dancefloors with their melodic synths and groovy basslines. With their debut release set for the end of the month, we got the opportunity to speak with them.

For those unaware, who are D&S?

We are a Chicago Tech House duo, moving the dance floors with our melodic synths and powerful basslines. Our production and DJ sets are heavily influenced by Tech House, Progressive House, and Techno genres which convey a dynamic range in sound. We have started to make our imprint in the Chicago house music scene and have been fortunate enough to support major acts across well-known venues throughout Chicago and other cities.

We had the opportunity to check out your debut single, “Origins”. We’re digging the chest–rattling bassline and the infectious vocals used. How did this track come about?

Origins was the first track we wrote together last year and we could not be happier with the final result. At the time, we had been DJing for a few years and always loved rocking the dancefloor with heavy basslines, so we knew we had to make that element stand out. The name “Origins” felt like the perfect fit for the track, given it’s our first release and the messaging behind the vocals. One of our favorite layers of the track is also the arp. The note progression plays really nicely off of the vocals and adds a unique atmospheric effect.

If you could work with your dream producer, who would it be? And why would you love to work with them?

Maya Jane Coles; Maya has always been an early inspiration to us for both DJing and production. She also has a vast music catalog which reflects a strong work ethic and her style of sound really resonates with us, especially her dubbier basslines and dreamy synths.

We’ve seen that you guys have been supporting acts such as Eli Brown and Solardo. How has that experience been?

It is pretty surreal to meet and share the same stage with some of the heavyweights in the house & techno genres. Watching how they operate on the decks and control the crowd is inspiring and something we try to learn from each time we get the opportunity to support them.

What five tunes do you guys feel people have to hear immediately?

Bicep – Meli (II)

Eli & Fur – Skyway

Fabrication – Forget You

Fred Again.., Romy – Lights Out (HAAi Remix)

Space Motion – Epic Resurrection

With Festival season now in full swing, is there a specific event you guys wish to perform at?

There are so many awesome festivals and events that we love, but if we had to choose one, it would be the Kappa Futur Festival in Italy. We have never attended, but the lineup is always filled with an extensive amount of artists that push the house & techno genres, and the production of the event looks unreal.

What’s the next step for you guys?

We are continuing to work hard on writing music and putting out more tracks soon. Our intent is to grow our brand with the hopes of eventually touring one day.
