It was a pleasure speaking with Drenched Hearts. We caught up and spoke about his latest single, ‘Black Heart’, as well as the remix featuring Maxinne, his future idea for creating a platform and other interesting subjects.

Let our readers in on who Drenched Hearts is…

Producer / DJ / Poet from London

Describe your sound in 5 words…

Music to move more than just your feet  (that’s 8 but I’m sure you’ll let me off)

We got a sneak peak at your debut single, ‘Black Heart’. What was the thought process behind creating this dance floor filler?

The sound is about always trying to bring emotion back into the peak time dance floor records and being able to showcase amazing meaningful songs with production that does them justice. Its the constant quest for the sweet spot where a record can move you but also have enough energy to make a crowd go crazy. There is a lot more depth out there to electronic music than just songs with 90s samples and lyrics about putting your hands in the air. Growing up, Todd Terrys remix Everything But The Girl ‘Missing’ was such an amazing record that inspired me and thats the same energy that Drenched Hearts will bring. Hopefully along with that it will connect with people that feels the track in the clubs but then they stick with them as they hit an emotional chord.

The Maxinne remix will also be bringing feet to dance floors. How did that link up come about?

I’ve been a huge fan of Maxinne for a while and I was conscious that my original showcases a full song. There was no way that I was going to cut out any of the great song that Asha had given me but I was also a realist that some DJs will never play a full vocal in a club. For me Maxinne is one of the most exciting DJ Producers out there at the moment and her sound has a certain class and quality about it. I knew she would deliver an amazing mix and she didn’t disappoint.

With you bringing emotions to the dance floor, what 3 festivals would you love to perform at?

Exit – watching Solomon play it this year after covid just felt epic. And the amphitheatre setting is truly amazing

Electric Castle – This was one my favourite festivals I’ve been to. Cards on the table – I went with a friend of mine who was playing back in 2018 … something got lost in translation and we ended up on a life long ban from the festival. Its a beautifully curated festival … it feels like the Coachella of Romania but without the ego or pretentiousness. Hopefully i’ll be let back in some day .

Creamfields  – I’m British and it’s one of the staple UK festivals and the crowds are real dance fans. To bring my sound to an audience like that would be amazing as its a festival that has continuously delivered over the years and showcases the biggest players in the game. Some people might think its not the coolest festival out there … but playing to a messy huge British crowd will always be cool in my book.

With you wanting to create Electronic music with depth and emotion, could we see a label in the future? Creating a platform for those who share your sentiment would be pretty cool.

100% . I think the focus now though is to just to be consistent with my own releases as I start to educate people about what the sound is. Rather than scrambling around releasing on a ton of different labels I decided to self release as then we control the output and the dialogue. Its a longer road to take but its about building something which is ours which will stand the test of time

Who would be your dream producer to collaborate with?

Very good questions. There’s loads on the list but i’d have to say Bonobo. What Si does is truely unique and theres not one quite like it. He’s lives in an electronic world but isnt really like any other electronic artist. Seeing his Alexandra Palace show a few years back was inspirational.

What’s your favourite YouTube Channel and why?

YouTube’s an interesting one. the main thing i use it for is to check live sets of people – whatever channel they are on. If i had to pick one tho I’d say Cercle. During lockdown everyone suddenly everyone was live streaming to their fans but a lot of it felt not thought through and actually just cheapened their offering. I think something like Cercle showed the levels that can be achieved from the live stream format – and actually how the visual aspect married with the right dj set can create a real special moment even when the fans cant be there. But to be clear … nothing will ever replace the vibe of a full dancefloor.

What five tracks did you discover during Lockdown?

Some of these were released during lockdown and some are much older that came on to my radar. What I can say is all of them are amazing and i still have on repeat now. The tracks below would actually give you a good reference on records i would play in a dj set outside of my own material

Mark Hawkins – The Phoenix Part 2

Gerd Janson, Catz n Dogz – Modern Romance

Harry Romero – Its hurts ( Rodriguez Jnr remix)

Paul Kalkbrenner – Paschter

Deetron – Dr Melonball

What’s the next step for Drenched Hearts

The next single is called ‘You Don’t Know’ and features a remix from Simon Doty who’s recently been releasing on Anjunadeep. That drops mid September. Then I’ll deep dropping singles until the debut album next year!
