We recently had the opportunity to speak to Ceeko. We discussed his latest release, ‘Mental’, his previous release, ‘Magic’ and what tracks he discovered throughout the year.

Let the readers know who Ceeko is.

I am an energetic, fun loving character, I am likely to be the loudest person in a room at any given time. I love all things music related but aside from music I delve heavily into all things comic and sci-fi. I love Premier League Football and watching the NBA in my spare time.

Describe your sound in five words.

Old soul, hip-hop at heart.

Listening to your latest release, ‘Mental’, we’re really feeling it. What was the inspiration behind it?

I was at a point in my career where creatively I was struggling with the feeling of being trapped. It was my cry out to release all that I was holding onto.

Looking through your catalogue, we discovered ‘Magic’. Another track we like, how did this track come about?

I was in the studio with the amazing talent Uno Stereo who had done some amazing work on Khalid’s records. He had this little 16 bar loop and as soon as I heard it I remember singing out loud right away “MAGIC!!!!”. A couple hours later the majority of the song was done.

What five tracks did you discover over the last year?

How Much Can A Heart Take – Lucky Daye, Yebba

Puerto Rico – IDK, Lucky Daye

Let Go My Hand – J. Cole, 6LACK, Bas

Wasting Time – Brent Faiyaz, Drake

Damaged – Miiesha

What’s your favourite YouTube channel and why?

NPR Music. Their Tiny Desk series are always such amazingly intimate music concerts. Goosebumps watching some of those latest performances.

Who would be your dream artist to collaborate with?

I think it’s gotta be Alica Keys, I mean she does it all. She produces, writes, and her tone has been a major inspiration to me for such a long time now!

What’s next for Ceeko?

I’d like to tell you all my list of plans and aspirations but it is a long list haha…. Lets just say I am super ambitious and I really don’t think anything is going to stop me from achieving all I want to creatively. The next few years are about to be a movie!
