We got the opportunity to speak with Annalise Azadia. We spoke about her latest release, ‘Deep Down’, what music she discovered this year and what plans she has going forward.
Let us in on who Annalise is?
Hi, I’m Annalise Azadian a 24-year old singer-soulwriter, musician out of New York: A creative polymath of many trades. I say soulwriter because I pour my heart and soul into my lyrics sharing vulnerability and sometimes sadness and my music is said to have soul. I love showcasing my personality and artistic qualities through my music. I’m never scared to express myself or try new things, shown in my fashion sense and artistic qualities. I’m lucky to have become the It-girl for many cool brands. I’m the new sound of alternative-R&B, a 1 of 1 artist, paving my own legacy.

We’re feeling your latest release, ‘Deep Down’. What was the inspiration behind this song?
My inspiration for my latest single, Deep Down started with the words, deep down mumbling over my acoustic guitar. The overall feeling and emotion I was portraying was of heartbreak and sadness of my realization that my fantasy love was yet just not meant to be and being blinded in love, I failed to accept the truth that I knew “deep down.“ When I showed the idea to Swagg (R’Celius Harris, my producer on the record) he liked the concept and helped me expand on the idea. We worked together creating more of the story; as if I was literally drowning in this deep end of love. The song goes deep into how emotions are constantly swaying back and forth like waves in an ocean, not being able to get to shore or being able to catch my breath or in this case, grasp onto the truth of the matter.
Checking out some of your previous work, we came across, ‘Life of the Party’. We like this track along with the fun looking visuals. How did this track come about?
I’m glad you liked it. Life of the Party was my summer anthem. It started off as a paradox of being this “Life of the Party ” but in reality, I would much rather be the wallflower, minding my business in the corner. It started over a soulful, rhodes track with producer, WhatsGoodKev. When Swagg heard it, he loved the hook and changed the beat into a more pop-house type beat to expand on the party feel. It was my first track working with Swagg. Although being the party girl can be fun, and is definitely a vibe I could be, I’d much rather keep to myself and engage in different activities, not needing to party to have a good time. I loved shooting the video and getting to creative direct the concept of the visual and having it give off this parallel feeling of this lively party scene to a desolate desert shot of me daydreaming in the middle of nowhere as the closing shot. The video is very fast paced, flying through different scenes and sets. I had a great time creating this masterpiece with my friend, videographer and director, Steve Muelz.
Are there any artists you wish to collaborate with?
Yes, there are a few amazing artists I would love to collaborate with; many provide me inspiration, such as Frank Ocean, PartyNextDoor, Erykah Badu, Alicia Keys and so many more. All of these artists have unique writing styles and their own sound and that’s what I love about them. I aspire to have these qualities and I know I could learn a ton from just being in their presence. If they read this – yes, yes, I’d love to collaborate with you!
Do you have desires to perform at any specific events / festivals?
I would love to start touring this year and open for a major artist. On stage is where I feel like I shine most and I would definitely like to get back into live shows since the Pandemic. I just headlined my first show back at Pianos in NYC. It was such a great night with so many people in the building it left me excited to play festivals like Coachella, Rolling Loud & honestly anywhere that I can make an intimate connection with my fans.
What 3 tracks did you discover this year?
3 tracks I discovered this year are Tems “Free Mind”, all the songs on Don Toliver’s new project “Life of a Don” and Summer Walker’s new project “Still Over it.” Really love the flows and melodies on all of these. I can listen to them on repeat all day long.
What’s next for Annalise
There’s so much in store for me I can say confidently. I have been working at my craft since I was 10 years old and performing since I was 13, I feel like my time is right around the corner. With every drop, I am simply trying to make it as undeniable as possible to a wide variety of people all over the world. It is difficult to get discovered by new fans, but I think once fans find me and when the world catches on, I have a good catalog of music and people will be gravitated to check out my old work and understand who I am as an artist and journey so far. I am aiming to put out a project in the new year and start touring to build my fan base. I am constantly evolving as a woman and human being. I find some things mean more to me than they did before while other things I am satisfied with; and I always am curious to see what lies ahead for me. I know I will always channel who I am and what I believe in through my music.
