For those unaware, let us in on who Alex is and how the duo of Alex & Drew came about?
Firstly in terms of myself (Alex) I’m a Music composer based in Brixton, London and this particular collaboration with Drew we in fact started quite some time ago, we met through Music College back in 14/15.
Describe your sound in 5 words
Pure, Listenable, Rich, Lifting and Honest.
We got an exclusive listen to your upcoming track, ‘As They Fade’. We’re feeling the fusion of Soul and Jazz. How did this song come about?
We have been told this a fair bit, which is really cool and surprising because our original intention was it must sound / be like this. Feel this is more about each of us bringing our own experiences, influences and just collaborating nicely together on this.
Loving the collaboration with Riah Knight on ‘As They Fade’ how did this come about?
This was through Drew as he knew Riah, so we all linked on this.
With Festival season in full swing, which events are on your bucket list to perform?
I’ve been thinking a lot about this point, and it’s not a case of having a particular area of festival or places to perform as for us it’s more about subtly getting the music out and we have quite a few areas we are working towards and knocking on the door, but of course Glastonbury would be one.
What three tracks do you think the world needs to hear?
The new Hudson Mohawke album, his Cry Sugar single is out which is a mini mega mix of what’s to come on it, it’s just super interesting material. Max Cooper for his initiative approach to his music and his visuals, so would say Exotic Contents and lastly Verushka, she is a London-based soulfull jazz delight and everything in-between, I really enjoyed her stuff and her album “Not Even Bliss‘
Who would you like to see Alex & Drew collaborate with on a track?
Well there are many in mind but if we are thinking potentially similar to this track in terms of style and that. This is just a personal choice and has been since her early days, would be Jessie Ware or London Grammar.
What’s the next step for yourself?
Don’t want to say too much, but there’s 100% more material to follow and it’s ready.
