Rising East London producer and vocalist Di-Vincent delivers his incendiary mixtape SKR (Sun Kiss Rain).
His first project since signing to Eton Messy Records as the iconic electronic label’s first-ever rapper.
Continuing his immaculate run of form, Di-Vincent’s brand-new project SKR (Sun Kiss Rain) seamlessly embodies the dissolution of youth culture. With sounds reminiscent of darkened raves and warehouse settings, the high-calibre, UKG instrumentals open pockets for the Chinese-Nigerian heritage artist to display a rare, lyrical focus that instantly underlines him as standout. An immersive patchwork that journeys through the disorientation of inner-city life, SKR (Sun Kiss Rain) will no doubt continue the heat surrounding London’s next breakout star in the making.
Sharp and dextrous from the offset, the 8-track mixtape opens with “Near Miss” – a choppy, neo-garage offering brought to life with a monochrome music video directed by Liam Woolmer-Thompson (Sampa The Great, Oscar Jerome, Lucy Tun). Di-Vincent flexes his razor-sharp bars with typical finesse while his words reach out to creatives finding calm amidst the chaos and expressing a creative reflex on their own terms.
Steadily manoeuvring through the hazy, grime-infused sessions of “On The Verge”, we reach an apex of Di-Vincent’s authentic musicality across the run of lead track “My Way” ft. Netherlands vocalist Miči, “Jealous” and “Tiempo”. Closing out the record with sharp percussion and vibrant silhouettes that allow him to reminisce on past love and the hardships faced across his ethereal journey, the final touch before sharply reverting to a cadence where he’s most comfortable and potent – a complex juxtaposition to what stands as a highly significant project for the rising star.
Speaking on the mixtape, Di-Vincent mentions: “The ‘SKR’ tape began as a collaborative single with producer ElMari, and evolved into an 8-track mixtape. ‘SKR‘ symbolises the start of a journey and my attitude towards venturing into the unknown. The tape is my first attempt at blending rap with electronic and discovering a new realm of sound. It pays homage to the sounds of Grime, UK Rap, UKG and electronic music.”
Since debuting in 2019 with his infectious record “World Is Yours”, Di-Vincent has been steadily perfecting his artistry, producing, writing and performing his songs across the underground before his musicality started to resonate on some of the biggest stages across European rave culture. Collaborations with pioneering talent including Bengali heritage artist Surya Sen and London-based talent Manni Dee catapulted Di-Vincent onto centre stage, gaining key play time at Hör Berlin, TAAHLIAH’s Boiler Room Live and Daniel Avery’s set at Glastonbury 2022 before solidifying his presence with performances at London’s XOYO, The Jazz Café and the iconic Printworks. Already boasting significant acclaim from key tastemakers incl. WONDERLAND, CLASH, GUAP, BBC INTRODUCING and RINSE FM, Di-Vincent’s multidisciplinary approach across SKR (Sun Kiss Rain) marks him as one of the most exciting creatives emerging across the UK landscape
