Effortlessly embodying the eclectic touches that have defined him as a mainstay in R&B’s global footprint, Col3trane continues to flex his high-calibre approach across “Crocodile Tears”. Backed by sleek, hazy harmonies dripping with atmosphere and intent, the 25-year-old artist commands the beat with sun-kissed vocals as syncopated drum breaks create a pocket for intimate reflections of fading love. The confusion, jealousy and wasted luxury illustrates a passion that gradually intensifies the deeper he pleads, before Chase Shakur joins the fold with smooth undertones to elevate the duo past the complexities in their candid pursuit of real love.
Speaking on the track, Col3trane explains: “’Crocodile Tears’ is about doing too much for someone and not getting enough in return. I feel like a lot of people can relate to feeling like nothing you do is ever enough, but this song definitely feels to me like it’s more about being over it than anything else.”
Touching on the collaboration, Col3trane adds: “Chase and I linked in London while he was on tour last year and made a couple joints but this one definitely stuck and felt right very quickly. We linked in LA recently too and made a couple joints for his album. I love what he’s doing, it feels really exciting and different. I think people are really gonna love this song and everything he’s got coming up.”
Already holding notable collaborations this year with the likes of H.LLS, Tay Iwar, Nippa and Santino Le Saint, Col3trane’s new cut follows the release of “Where Have You Been All My Life”, his first official release of 2024. A captivating performance through the intoxicating pull of temptation, the young producer and vocalist was quickly met with critical attention across the like of WONDERLAND, CLASH, BILLBOARD and COLORS.
With nearly 275M streams to his name, alongside an impressive catalogue of tracks with Kehlani, Lucky Daye, RAYE, Chad Hugo (The Neptunes), Flatbush Zombies, FJK, GoldLink and Mahalia amongst others, Col3trane has cultivated a serious following since his official inception in 2017 across SG Lewis’ “Smart Aleck Kill”. Delivering his highly acclaimed mixtape Tsarina at just 18-years-old, the young talent showcased his striking visual identity with incendiary music videos for “Language” and “Penelope” directed by Felix Brown (Unknown T, Loyle Carner, Yeat) and Nicole Nodland (personal photographer of Prince) respectively.
Following a key support slot across Dua Lipa’s ‘IDGAF’ Tour, breakout status was secured as his vivid storytelling and musicality began to absorb into global fashion spaces. Covering the 50th issue of ARENA HOMME +, appearances across V MAGAZINE’s infamous campaign with Moncler x Palm Angels and further tastemaker love across i-D, HIGHSNOBIETY and CRACK has solidified Col3trane’s presence as a multifaceted creative force deep-rooted into UK fashion and street culture.
Col3trane’s potent artistry and influence continue to bridge the gap between international waters – affirming him as one of R&B’s hottest musical exports in the making.
