Following the recent drop of high-energy club banger ‘It’s Your Time’ – a collab with Jamie Boy Bassline, Brighton based, Irish-Lebanese artist Bklava shares the captivating video for the single.

Filmed in Beirut, featuring heady late night club scenes – DJing herself in the motherland – and poignant shots of the city after dark, the video showcases Bklava’s pride in her Lebanese heritage, while also telling the tale of a hedonistic night out and emphasising the meaning of the song. With it’s positive lyrical message of female empowerment, the single is all about encouraging women to have their time and do what they said they wanted to do!

Bklava also recently shared the title of her forthcoming new EP Khalas (pronounced Hal-las)- meaning “stop/enough” in Arabic (pronounced Hal-las). A word she heard a lot growing up in a Lebanese family, often as women we are told to be nice and quiet but as Bklava has learned “the older I’ve gotten, the louder I’ve become to break this mould”. This club focused EP for the ravers and dancefloor lovers is due for release in Summer 2023, and will see Bklava say “enough”, to celebrate growth and change, and focus on the positive things ahead.

Speaking on the single, Bklava says,

“It’s one for peak time dance floors. It’s about owning your emotions and letting everything go in the rave. I love nothing better than being behind the decks, or in the crowd, and noticing the ravers that are so in the moment, not caring about anything around them. They’ve got their eyes closed, throwing their hands in the air and they are just feeling it! This one’s for that exact moment.”

With an alias inspired by her favourite middle eastern dessert, Bklava’s love affair with music began during childhood. Where her father introduced her to classic rock and folk early on, her mother’s taste veered closer to radio-ready pop and 90s house music. Her parents’ contrasting interests – plus their respective roots in Ireland and Lebanon – introduced Bklava to a melting pot of styles as well as two distinctive musical heritages.

Since the release of her debut singleCNTRL – a link-up with UKG pioneer Wookie in 2019 – Bklava has enamoured listeners with an intoxicating sound which draws from a vibrant palette of UK-rooted club styles, both nostalgic and future-facing that she dubs “non-stop bops and flava”. Bklava is cementing her space in the burgeoning new wave of UK artists, with shimmering productions and unique hybrid DJ and live performance set incorporating her own powerful vocals. Storming the scene with her debut EP Bklava (2020) on Ministry of Sound, Bklava has gone on to be tipped as One to Watch by Amazon Music alongside Pa Salieu, Bree Runway and I.Jordan, in addition to being highlighted by BBC Radio 1’s Danny Howard in his Future Fire artists for the year.

Counting tastemakers including Mixmag, DJ Mag, Wonderland, Clash, Notion as fans, last year alone, she’s traversed the globe to play at leading events such as supporting Fatboy Slim at his arena shows, Parklife, Lost & Found, Primavera, Snowbombing, Radio 1’s Big Weekend, Secret Garden Party, UTOPIA and AVA Festival – where she performed her first ever Boiler Room to raucous reception. 2023 will see Bklava take the next step in her journey with her third EP out this Summer on Ministry of Sound, and continuing to sell-out shows across the globe with her increasingly busy touring schedule.
