Underlining Afro B’s natural finesse when combining west African sounds and deep percussion with a London element, his latest single, “Sexy Sexy”, is an irresistible and uplifting record proving to be the perfect tonic for the start of summer — a sleek, resonant gem containing blends of New Jersey club bounce, tailor-made for dancefloor motives. Afro B’s innate lyricism skips across a quick soundtrack, alongside a chopped up female vocal exclaiming “put your hands all up on me” taking centre stage, providing room for effective, sped-up percussive elements and light synth notes to emerge, before Nosike drops by with her trademark bars.
On the release, Afro B states: “I grew up loving funky house, I had the idea to sample one of my favourite house/funky house songs and add my twist to it. ‘Rudimental ft Natalie May – sexy sexy’. The song is pretty self-explanatory, if you feel sexy this song is for you.”
Afro B has blazed an extremely bright path over the last half a decade, most notably via his smash hit “Drogba (Joanna)”, which currently sits on over 116M Spotify streams and counting, paving the way for his international success. The track was so well received that global superstars WizKid and French Montana provided individual remixes. With a #25 placement on the BILLBOARD R&B/Hip-hop airplay chart, the single was part of Afro B’s hugely successful album Afrowave 2.
Since, the UK Afrowave pioneer has been busy releasing monumental projects such as Afrowave 3, sitting on over 80M streams to date, as well appearing on singles such as “Safety 2020” alongside the likes of Chris Brown and DJ Snake. More recently, he has been busy on tour supporting global popstar Jason Derulo across Europe.
It’s a trajectory that’s seen the Londoner firebrand amass millions of streams and hundreds of thousands of Instagram followers and sell out shows internationally. Widely regarded as the leading figure in the UK’s exploding Afrowave scene, Afro B continues to underline himself as one of the capital’s key new generation icons, pushing boundaries and crafting global hits.
Critical attention has been swift across the spectrum, from fashion and culture tastemakers FACT MAGAZINE, GUAP, GRM DAILY toradio support from BBC 1XTRA and more, underlining the unique, universal appeal of his music on an international scale. With a brand new project in the works, Afro B looks set to continue the significant attention around him as one of London’s most compelling and visionary young artists breaking ever further into EU and international consciousness.
